Podia Review (2020)

Updated: Oct 16, 2020

Podia is a standalone platform that began as “Coach”, though quickly evolved into one of the most intuitive course platforms on the market.

Podia currently has over 20,000 course content creators on the platform, all of whom create and sell courses, as well as downloadable digital content.

Podia is an all-in-one digital platform that gives creators the ability to sell products almost instantly. Beyond that, there are a slew of great features on the platform, including payment processing, newsletter creation, and email marketing capabilities.

Deciding on the right course platform can be difficult, to say the least, especially with so many out there. That is why we wanted to share our experience with Podia so that you can narrow down your ultimate decision.

Top Features On Podia

The ability to create a membership site on Podia is incredibly simple. It is actually one of the very first things you do when you get to the site and it allows you to begin selling your courses. You begin by going to the Podia website and creating your membership, which will give you access to “Plans” creation.

Here you can create a variety of pricing plans or bundle different products for specific plans. Your membership site can be easily linked to your other social media platforms as well, including Facebook or Slack.

Selling Products

Podia makes selling your products fairly easy as well.

The platform breaks your products down into a few categories, including:

  • Online Courses

  • Digital Downloads

  • Product Bundles

You can access all of your products quickly through the dashboard menu.

When creating an online course, Podia provides you with a basic theme, which you can update and customize to your liking. You can then upload a variety of files, including links and quizzes. You can choose to send your lessons out in scheduled intervals as well, which is a great feature to help keep your students engaged.

Podia has a unique, built-in sales page that sets it apart from other online course platforms, which collects payment for you and provides students with coupons. You can pitch your courses in advance as well using the email address collector.

Next, we have digital downloads. Digital downloads are essentially digital pieces of content that you can sell or give away for free, including guides, e-books, PDF files, audio files, video files, cheat sheets, checklists, and much more!

Podia has made the process of checking out extremely efficient so as to help increase conversion rates and optimize your site. New users don’t even have to create an account to download your files, which is very incentivizing.

Lastly, we have the product bundles. Product bundles are essentially your courses bundled with your digital downloads. You can choose how you would like to arrange these so that your students can easily make one large purchase for all of the content that they need for a specific course.

Email Marketing

The email marketing feature on Podia is top-notch. You can access it through the dashboard menu and use it to send out newsletters or craft drip campaigns. Email marketing is such an important strategy to keep your students engaged over long periods.

You can use Podia’s email marketing tools to send out messages manually or schedule automated messages to go out when you choose. It’s very easy to add your own branding to your emails as well.

Podia offers a variety of backend features as well so that you can track your metrics, including clicks, opens, unsubscribe rates, etc.

Aside from the emails that you use to market your course, you can send out emails that pertain to course updates. Let’s say that you decide to add a new e-book guide to go along with one of your courses. You can easily notify your students through email, letting them know that your storefront has been updated with a new and relevant product.

We will say that Podia should not be seen as a replacement for your email service that you may already use, as it isn’t as feature-packed as some of the big email marketing companies out there, such as MailChimp. There are obvious formatting and promotions limitations.

How Much Does Podia Cost?

Podia keeps it pretty simple with two paid plans, which helps to limit confusion that often circles around platform pricing.

  • Mover Plan: $39 per month or $390 per year

  • Shaker Plan: $79 per month or $790 per year

Both of these plans provide access to different features with the Mover plan being a bit more limited.

Of course, as with many other competitor platforms, Podia also offers a 14-day free trial that you can take advantage of as well to see if the platform is right for your needs. This is a great way to tinker with the online course builder, membership site tools, and other digital features on the platform.

Is Podia Worth It?

Podia is a wonderful introductory platform for course builders. The interface is very easy to use and provides course creators with simple features so as to not overwhelm. Almost all of the features that you will use can be found on the dashboard, making it easy to navigate the platform as well.

Podia also puts all of your digital products in one location, allowing you to host your online courses, membership sites, and digital downloads, all in one place, without limitations. You won’t have to use any other third-party storage sites to host your additional items.

The last great thing about Podia is the drag-and-drop builder, which works very well for those who aren’t equipped with HTML knowledge. You can make your website theme look pro right off the bat.

Of course, there are a few downsides to Podia. For starters, it lacks many of the customization options that you see through its competitors, such as Kajabi or Thinkific. Though it has a 24/7 live chat channel and email support, it, unfortunately, lacks phone support.

All-in-all, if you are looking for a simple platform to host your online courses or digital content, Podia is excellent. We HIGHLY recommend it for beginners or intermediate creators. Make sure to read more about the Podia platform and try out their 14-day trial HERE.
